25.07.2009 - Radio Controlled

Posted in General

After a friend winded me up I had to get me some new toys. I already have two nice Tamiya cars but they are both in need of a wee restoration. I decided to re-enter the hobby the cheapest possible way. I searched for cheap 4WD RTR cars. I choosed two cars from China-based HBX. First there is the Max Buggy which is a direct knock-off of the Tamiya TL-01B chassis. The second car I bought was the Surge Truggy XT. The cars arrived in the mail some days ago.

Out of the box....

...both cars seemed quite nice. The Max Buggy looked like a rugged buggy, although it's said the HBX knock-off is quite brittle compeared to the original Tamiya chassis. The radio felt "plasticy"...

Quite nice design on the body, although a bit "girly" colour...

The Surge Truggy XT also looked good out of the box, but here as well did the radio look like a plastic box. The Truggy has a different design and I was quite thrilled about testing it.

I don't really like the design of this body....
